(Make it Easy)
(Aim Higher)
(Be Welcoming)
(Together We Can)
(Embrace Curiosity)
Pierre Le Manh

To the extended PMI global community,
As the year draws to a close, I want to thank you for your contributions to PMI over the course of 2022. I would like to share a few thoughts as we enter the holiday season and hopefully find time to recharge with our families and loved ones.
I joined PMI as President & CEO in September. The months since have been a whirlwind of activity, especially meeting with chapter members, volunteers, certification holders, staff, partners, and other stakeholders on travels that have taken me everywhere – from the Middle East to the Asia Pacific region, from India to Europe – and culminating in North America for Global Summit, the largest in-person event PMI has ever hosted and the perfect way to end my first three months.
Across many cultures and languages represented in our global community, I have been struck by what you all have in common – engagement and passion for PMI and the profession. I have never seen or experienced anything quite like this in my professional journey.
PMI has undergone many transformations in recent years with many new products launched and a new regional model introduced. We can now see, with the benefit of hindsight, that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was profound. For example, PMI is now a fully remote organization with no geographical constraints. This shift has enabled us to reinvent how we interact, creating new opportunities for how we recruit great talent from around the world and engage with our chapters, volunteers, and stakeholders.
To a large extent, we will continue to transform – that’s how we have maintained our relevance over the past half century.
But even amidst all this reinvention, we should not lose sight of what we do at our core. In essence, it’s pretty simple:
• Connect – we offer opportunities for professionals from around the globe to share ideas and deepen relationships, whether at in-person conferences, chapter events, or virtual connection, between professionals and with corporations, governments and experts.
• Learn – we foster the development and transmission of knowledge, either directly through our offerings (courses, certifications, standards, publications, thought leadership, and more) or through our partnerships with academic institutions, other professional organizations, training companies, and education technology platforms.
• Give Back – the holiday season is the perfect time to reflect on the impact we have driven together, including pledging over 180,000 hours in support of the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals through our Hours for Impact initiative. Consider the scale of these problems, from driving greater sustainability to strengthening the quality of education worldwide. Who better to tackle these critical challenges facing humanity than project professionals?
From my conversations with the next generation of project leaders, it is clear that PMI is as relevant as ever – but we also need to experiment and provide innovative forms of connection, learning, and of giving back to the community and to society. Our more experienced members have many ideas to offer in this space as well, and we are focused on enabling everyone to experiment and innovate.
In 2023, our priority will be on operational excellence – ensuring that we maximize the value and improve the experience delivered to our members, volunteers, and stakeholders. We will also be focused on following through on our new values:
• Make It Easy
• Aim Higher
• Be Welcoming
• Together We Can
• Embrace Curiosity
Each day, we will continue to challenge ourselves to embody these values as we empower project professionals from around the world to make ideas a reality.
I look forward to continuing to partner with all of you in 2023. Have a wonderful holiday season.
Sincerely,
Pierre Le Manh
