The PMI Milwaukee Chapter planned and hosted
the Region 2 meeting in Milwaukee, USA in September. More than
60 chapter leaders were present, representing almost every area of
leadership in North Central North America.
Attendees set their sights on assigning process
improvement tasks and sharing leadership best practices. They took
advantage of many knowledge transfer opportunities in the form of
panel discussions and peer-to-peer breakout sessions.
Region 2 Component Mentor Monica Faurote, PMP and PMI
Component Mentor Program Coordinator Nancy Berger co-presented on
Leveraging the Power of the Profession through Component Strategic
Alignment.
During the meeting, chapter leaders were
motivated to find alternative ways to improve value to members at
the chapter level and provide greater mutual support at the region
level. The region’s Strategic Advisory Group meetings, once open
only to chapter officers, now welcome any Region 2 chapter member.
These topics generated substantial discussion at the
meeting:
Creating chapters with branches.
Those interested in forming new geographic communities
should start by working with nearby chapter leaders.
Staying aligned to chapters’ strategic
plans. Attendees committed to stay aligned with their
chapters’ plans and to cooperate in order to meet shared
needs.
Staying aligned with PMI Global
Operations Center. Attendees confirmed that a significant
majority of chapters are aligned to PMI’s expectations.
Developing a sustainable infrastructure.
R2 leaders unanimously launched as a new position for each
chapter’s a ‘regional component liaison’. They will be dedicated
volunteers who will add efficiencies and increase communications by
providing orientations prior to regional meetings, following-up on
action items and providing chapters with direct channels to the
regional component mentor — among other roles.
Knowledge management. The region is
setting up a shared regional speakers bureau. Meeting leaders noted
that PMI Learn offers educational materials, and other PMI resources
are available upon request. Please contact Nancy Berger
for assistance.
Web site process and content improvement,
including the possibility of using outside services to
manage the Region 2 Web tools and updating Web site content specific
to various centers of excellence. |
