| NEW PMI Component Resource:
Online Component System (CS) Gives Leaders Access to Important
Information. |
|
|
The PMI Component and Community Relations
Department would like to introduce component leaders to the new
online Component System (CS). It’s a Web-based resource that gives
you access to important information about your component and a wide
variety of information that is on record with PMI.
To support greater information flow between
PMI and the component leaders, CS allows leaders to update the main
contact information and officers of their component.
Initially, the system will allow chapter and college
presidents and SIG chairs to edit the contact information and
officers for their component. These two sections can be edited with
edit permissions, while all other information is read-only. At their
discretion, chapter and college presidents and SIG chairs can give
edit rights to other officers of their component.
The Component System is now also the
central location for the DEP real time reports .... so in
addition to accessing administrative information about your
component, you can access the DEP real time reports if you have
access rights to the DEP.
You will find a complete user
guide located in the Support/FAQ section of the
CS.
Component System Sections are as
follows:
- Component Home
- Component Contact Information — can be
edited with permission rights
- Business Records
- Legal records
- Financial record
- Insurance records
- Tax records
- Dues specifications
- Officers — can be edited with
permission rights
- DEP — available to those with DEP permission
- Support/FAQ
How to Access the Component System:
- Sign in to PMI.org
- Click on Get Involved in the top navigation
bar
- From the menu bar on the left, click
Components & Communities. The last item on this menu will be
Component System/DEP.
If you have any questions or problems with the new CS,
please contact Drew
Ihlenfeld or Nina
Aiuto. |

Program Management Professional Credential
is Available on Monday, 1 October. |
|
|
Component leaders and chapter members who manage
programs can now obtain a credential that recognizes their
knowledge, experience and skills.
PMI’s Program Management Professional
(PgMP)SM acknowledges practitioners responsible for the
management of multiple, related projects that advance organizational
objectives.
Building on the rigors of other PMI credentials, the
PgMP uses three pass/fail evaluations that include:
- An application review by a panel of program
managers
- A multiple-choice examination and
- A Multi-rater Assessment (MRA) in which a
team of raters review the candidate’s abilities to perform tasks
that are relevant to program management
Completing the three evaluations allows program
managers to assess their knowledge and skills against industry
standards and provides them with feedback that they can use for
professional development.
Candidates progress the evaluations online, which
allows for global participation in both the panel reviewers and
raters selected for the MRA.
Information on PgMP eligibility requirements,
credential policies and continuing certification can be found online
in the credential handbook. Online applications are
welcome as of Monday, 1 October.

Mumbai Meeting Gathers Business and PMI
Leaders PMI CEO Calls Project Management a Cornerstone to
Nation Building. |
|
 |
| PMI CEO Gregory
Balestrero and PMI Board of Directors Chair Linda Vella,
PMP |
In September, Team India, the informal coalition of
PMI chapter leaders in the country, held a meeting with business
executives in Mumbai that was attended by PMI CEO Gregory Balestrero
and PMI Board of Directors Chair Linda Vella, PMP. They discussed
the challenges to businesses in this rapidly growing nation, the
challenges in project management, and how PMI can help.
Attending were representatives of Satyam Computer
Services, Reliance, ABN Amro, Affinity, i2M, KPIT
Cummins, Indian Institute of Technology and Welingkar Institute
of Management. Most participants were from the information
technology sector.
Mr. Balestrero said, “All of the leaders that I met
helped me realize that project management in India is not only about
productivity and profitability, but it is about nation building.
Project management is one of the most critically needed professions
in India to ensure that its future can be achieved … Project
management in India is not merely an important profession; it is a
cornerstone to building the future of a nation.”
Organizations in India are experiencing a lack of
qualified project managers and a need to develop and retain project
managers. Leaders see the need for increased focus on the benefits
of project management.
Mr. Balestrero presented an overview of project
management and how it is addressing global challenges. Prior to the
meeting in Mumbai, he had been in New Delhi to introduce PMI to
government and association officials there. |
